Martin Rickard of SeaKayak Adventures organises regular expeditions to Greenland.
On a recent trip he noticed local (Greenland) hunters using homemade paddles like the one illustrated. The paddles have an additional alloy (aluminium?) end-piece, and edge re-inforcement. This is, of course, in keeping with the tradition of using any suitable available material, but what is the purpose of the end-piece?
